Men's Soccer Defeats Cougars

| By:
Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team kept its winning streak going as they defeated Minnesota Morris Friday afternoon by a score of 3-1 at a cold and windy Saints Field.

The action picked up right away as Morris had a great opportunity to jump out in front five minutes into the game but Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) shut the door to keep the game scoreless. A couple minutes later, Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) notched his 17th goal of the season as he ripped a shot from about 25 yards out over the arms of the Morris goalkeeper. The Saints would continue their offensive attack as Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) buried a shot into the top right corner to put the Saints up 2-0.

The score would remain the same going into halftime with Morris having a 7-6 edge in shots.

The majority of the second half was quiet as much of the action was in the middle of the field. Corcoran had a good opportunity to extend the lead off a corner kick but a Morris defender cleared the ball. With 10 minutes left, Jenkins would score his second goal of the game coming off a nice give-and-go between him and Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College). A few minutes later Morris would try to start a comeback as they scored their only goal of the game, but the Saints defense held strong to deny the Cougars of any more chances.

The shots were even in the second half at three apiece. Hewitt got the win while making three saves for the Saints while Matthew Yost took the loss for the Cougars while making two saves.

The Saints get right back at it as they host Crown Saturday afternoon will the action starting at 2:15 p.m. up at Saints Field.
