Box Score MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team used streaky shooting to hold off the Bethany Lutheran Vikings in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match-up by a score of 76-67 Saturday afternoon at the campus of Bethany Lutheran.
The opening minutes of the game saw the Saints and Vikings trade baskets until the Saints reclaimed the lead from an
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) lay-up to put CSS up 16-13 with about ten minutes left in the half.
The Saints then used a 16-4 run in the latter stages of the half to go up 36-23 heading into the break.
The second half saw the Vikings climb back into the game and would only be down 42-40 at the 13:14 mark. The Saints would halt the momentum and multiple
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) 3-pointers allowed CSS to close out the game strong eventually winning 76-67.
Bethany Lutheran (4-12, 2-3 UMAC) was led by Shelby Wiederhoeft with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Two other Viking players added 12 points apiece.
The Vikings finished the game shooting 34-percent from the field, 15-percent from beyond the arc, and 70-percent from the free-throw line. Bethany would grab 45 total rebounds and commit 13 turnovers for the game.
CSS was led by Heisler with 17 points and six rebounds.
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) added 13 points along with
Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) who also chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.
The Saints finished the game shooting 47-percent from the field, 28-percent from beyond the arc, and 71-percent from the charity stripe. CSS would grab 35 total rebounds and commit 14 turnovers.
St. Scholastica (6-10, 3-2 UMAC) will once again be the road for next week's UMAC contests, facing Northwestern on Friday and then North Central on Saturday. Friday's contest is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. local time. Tune into csssaints.com for updates from these games.
