Box Score MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team road woes continued as the Saints were unable to dethrone the defending Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season champions, losing by a score of 74-61 Saturday night at the campus of Bethany Lutheran.
The first half saw the Vikings jump out to a quick 5-0 lead in the opening minute before CSS found its first points of the game from a lay-up by
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS). The Vikings would extend the lead for the duration of the half eventually leading by 12 at the 10:01 mark.
The Saints would make a nice 11-4 run in the latter stages of the half and only trail 33-36 heading into the break.
The second half was much of the same as the Vikings controlled the tempo and the scoring, extending leads out to as much as 16 points. The Saints were never able to climb back out from the deficit and fell 74-61.
Bethany Lutheran (6-9, 4-1 UMAC) was led by Derek Peterson with 17 points and five rebounds. Three other Viking players reached double digits as well.
The Vikings finished the game shooting 47-percent from the field, 25-percent from beyond the arc, and 89-percent from the free-throw line. The Vikings would grab only 29 rebounds, accumulate 10 steals, and commit 11 turnovers.
CSS was led by Tester who finished with 15 points.
Derek Steve (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) added 14 points while
Trevor Morlock (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS (Minn., Crookston)) chipped in 10 points.
The Saints finished the game shooting 31-percent from the field, 20-percent from beyond the arc, and 83-percent from the free-throw line. CSS would garner 37 rebounds, grab eight steals, and commit 16 turnovers.
St. Scholastica (5-11, 3-2 UMAC) will try to end its road game woes as they travel to Northwestern College on Friday and then will face North Central University on Saturday. Friday's contest is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. local time. Tune into csssaints.com for updates from these games.
