Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team finished off its non-conference games for the 2012-13 season with a four goal second period en route to a 6-2 victory against Northland College, a member of the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA), Tuesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints will be moving to the MCHA from the NCHA after this season's conclusion.

The opening period was scoreless until just over 16 minutes had gone by when the Saints' Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) broke the scoring deadlock with an even-strength goal with assists going to Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) and goaltender Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ).  Northland was able to answer just a few minutes later with a goal coming with 2:33 left in the period.  The teams would skate into the first intermission knotted up 1-1.

The second period saw the Saints tally four goals with the first score coming six minutes into the period with a goal from Valenti with assists credited to Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) and Miller.  After ten minutes of back-and-forth action the Saints again would tally another goal on the power-play, this time from the stick of Brenden Kotyk (Regina, Saskatchewan/Michael A. Riffel HS (Dauphin-MJHL) ).  Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Garet Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS (Jersey-EJHL) ) would assist on the goal.  Miller then let the floodgates open with a goal just a 1:10 later with an assist going to Golanowski.

Northland would stop the momentum for a short while with a goal with two minutes left in the second period.  However, CSS would score with one second remaining in the period on the power-play, this time from Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)).  Valenti would assist on the goal.   The Saints went into the second intermission leading 5-2.

The final period was scoreless until Valenti netted his second goal of the evening with 43 seconds left in the contest.  The Saints would go onto win 6-2.

Northland (4-10-1, 2-8-0 MCHA) was able to get 24 shots on net for the night.  The Lumberjacks were 34-51 on face-offs and net minder Mason Riley stopped 51 shots on the night.

The 'Jacks were penalized seven times for 14 minutes and were 0-for-3 on the power-play.

CSS was led by Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) and Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) with two goals apiece. Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) had three assists on the night as well.

The Saints were able to get 51 shots on net for the game.  CSS was 2-for-5 on the power-play and had the advantage in the faceoff circle, 51-34.
