Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Head St. Scholastica men's soccer coach
Barry Chastey earned his 100th coaching victory on Friday as the Saints defeated Concordia College-Moorhead 4-2.
Chastey, who is in his eighth season as head coach, becomes the third CSS men's soccer coach to reach the 100-win plateau.
The Saints struck first as
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) scored his first collegiate goal in the 11th minute thanks to an assist from
Erik Trochimchuk (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold HS).
The Cobbers (2-2-0) tied it up in the 20th minute on a Jared Rice unassisted goal. Less than three minutes later Trochimchuk put the Saints back in front with an unassisted goal of his own. The Saints went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The Cobbers outshot the Saints 7-5 in the half, but CSS had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Concordia quickly tied it up in the second half as Jared Rice notched his second of the contest only 54 seconds into the half.
However, it was the Saints answering again as Corcoran netted his second of the game off of a corner kick from
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) to make it 3-2 Saints.
Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) gave the Saints insurance in the 70th minute with his first goal of the season as the Saints went on to win 4-2.
Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) stopped six shots to earn his second victory. Peter Runquist had four saves in the loss for the Cobbers. CSS lost to the Cobbers last year in overtime in the same Cobber Classic.
The Saints (2-1-0) will face Wartburg College (Iowa) tomorrow afternoon in Moorhead. Action is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
