PREVIEW: Volleyball to End Road Trip with Stop in Chicago

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will stop in Chicago Tuesday night on its way back from New York to take on 15th-ranked University of Chicago at 7 p.m.

About the Saints
Record: 4-0, 0-0 UMAC

  • The Saints are coming off winning the Oneonta State (N.Y.) Invitational on Saturday.
  • CSS did not drop a set in all four matches.
  • Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the team with 58 kills and was named the tournament's most valuable player.
  • Setter Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) averaged 11.5 assists per set and was also named to the all-tournament team.
  • Head Coach Dana Moore recorded her 300th coaching victory on Friday night with the 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University (N.Y.).
  • The Saints recorded 154 kills in the four matches of the tournament.
  • CSS also had 23 service aces, which averaged almost two per set.
  • Megan Windschitl (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) led the team with 12 total blocks, while freshman Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) stepped in and led the team with 49 digs.


About the Maroons
Record: 3-1, 0-0 UAA

  • Chicago went 3-1 last weekend in the Elmhurst (Ill.) Invitational.
  • The only loss came against the host, 11th-ranked Elmhurst, in a five set back-and-forth affair.
  • The Maroons were 30-6 in 2011 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Washington University-St. Louis.
  • Just like the Saints, last year's opening round win in the NCAA Tournament was the first in program history.
  • 10 players return from last year's squad, but gone are a pair of outside hitters, including the program's all-time kill leader Isis Smalls, and a setter.
  • Leading the returnees is AVCA Honorable mention All-American middle blocker Caroline Brander.

Series History: (CSS is 1-0 all-time vs. Chicago)
In its one and only meeting, the Saints defeated the Maroons in Chicago 3-1 in 2005.
