Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team handed the Northwestern Eagles their first conference loss with a commanding 5-0 victory on a chilly Saturday at Saints Field.
Scoring was initiated in the first half when
Erik Trochimchuk (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold HS) netted his sixth goal of the season at 14:30, the assist going to
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College).
Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) then tallied in the 32nd minute, the Saints outshooting the Eagles 8-1 in the first half.
Jenkins registered another goal in the 48th minute, contributing to his UMAC leading nine goals on the season thus far. Trochimchuk was credited with assists on both of Jenkins' goals; his 17 points are good for second in the conference.
Mark Fehringer (Hancock, Mich./Home school) would hit the back of the net at 70:34, scoring his first collegiate goal. Watt added another assist to his UMAC leading eight on the goal.
Ben Cullen (Clough, Northern Ireland/Shimna Integrated College) would close out the scoring on the day, scoring his first of the season in the 87th minute. Cullen completed the game with a goal and an assist.
Goalkeeper
Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) did not have to make a save on his way to the shutout, improving the Saints' record to 7-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the UMAC . Shane Coleman made seven saves in the Eagles loss, landing their record to 5-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the conference.
CSS stays on its own turf for the next two contests, facing Bethany Lutheran College on Friday and Martin Luther College on Saturday. Friday's kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Saints Field. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
