CLAREMONT, Calif. – Four members of the St. Scholastica track & field team wrapped up their seasons or careers Friday night at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Tracy Perish (Browerville, Minn./Browerville HS) began competition for the Saints on Thursday with the first part of the heptathlon. Perish would compete in four events on Thursday, setting personal records in three of the events. In the 100-meter hurdles she placed 18th with a personal-best time of 15.87 seconds. In the high jump, she finished 20th, clearing a personal-best height of 4'9” (1.45m).
Perish had her best finish of the first day in the shot put, placing seventh with a personal-best throw of 34'7” (10.54m). In the final event of the day, she finished 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.03 seconds. After the first four events of day one, Perish was 19th with 2,570 points.
Moving onto Friday, Perish's best events were upcoming with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run. However on her first long jump attempt, Perish would injure her leg knocking her out of the rest of the competition.
The three other Saints also competed on Friday in the hammer throw events.
Tom Lyscio (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) began things as the men's hammer throw was first. Lyscio would foul on two of his three throws with his one mark good enough for 14th place overall with a distance of 180'7” (55.04m). Lyscio was the first male thrower to compete at a national championship in program history.
The women throwers were the last to go and much like most of the season both finished with similar marks.
Alec Seeley (Cadott, Wis./Cadott HS) would get the better of
Becky Huberty (Lena, Wis./Lena HS) by six hundredths of a meter as they finished 14th and 15th, respectively. Seeley's best distance of her three throws was 157'6” (48.00m); while Huberty's top mark was 157'3” (47.94m).
This was the first time in the program's history the Saints qualified multiple competitors for nationals in either the indoor or outdoor season. Seeley became the first Saint to qualify in both the indoor and outdoor national championships in the same season.
For Seeley and Lyscio, they both wrap-up their outstanding CSS careers with numerous program records and conference awards/championships. Perish and Huberty will be back next year as juniors.
