Ohaju Breaks a Pair of Records at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Laurel Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) broke a pair of program records as the St. Scholastica women's track & field team placed fourth out of 15 teams at the Falcon Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday and Saturday.

The Saints finished with 78 points in fourth, beating the University of St. Thomas, who was fifth, by six points. Division II's Winona State University won the meet with 240.5 points.

On Friday, Rachel Miller (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) would place third in the javelin throw with mark of 114'7” (34.92m). Katie Walrath (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) placed fifth in that event with a distance of 109'1” (33.26m). Alec Seeley (Cadott, Wis./Cadott HS) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 156'5” (47.67m) and Rachel Thelen (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10'4” (3.15m).

Moving on to Saturday, Ohaju would break program records in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. In the 400-meters, she would finish third with a time of 58.00 seconds. In the 200-meter dash she would finish seventh with a record time of 26:15 seconds.

Ohaju was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team, along with Brianna Buske (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer HS), R. Thelen and Maggie Bair (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS) that placed fifth in a time of 49.91 seconds.

Miller was CSS's lone event winner of the meet, taking the triple jump with a leap of 37'1” (11.30m). Chelsea Johnson (North Branch, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) broke the program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing third in a time of 11:44.38.

Brea Durovec (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS) was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 69.23 seconds. Buske was sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.75 seconds. Closing out the scoring in running events was Kayla Roberge (Burnsville, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) in the 800-meter run, placing ninth in a time of 2:22.37 seconds.

In other field events on Saturday, Tracy Perish (Browerville, Minn./Browerville HS) was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 16'9.75” (5.12m). Becky Huberty (Lena, Wis./Lena HS) was fifth in the shot put with mark of 41'10.75” (12.77m).

Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) was eighth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5'1” (1.55m) and Bre Lohn (Benson, Minn./Benson HS) was behind her in ninth, clearing 4'11” (1.50m). Walrath was also ninth in the discus throw with a distance of 129'1” (39.34m).

The Saints are scheduled to take part in the Twin Ports Twilight on Tuesday at UMD. Weather will dictate if the meet will take place. Stay tuned to csssaints.com for future information.
