For the second straight day the CSS women's tennis team was perfect, this time defeating the North Central Rams 9-0 at the Baseline Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
The team completed a weekend UMAC sweep after defeating Bethany Lutheran College by the same score last night.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) and
Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) started off the day with an 8-0 victory.
In No. 2 and No. 3 doubles the tandems of
Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and
Cortne Solberg (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) as well as
Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) and
Pamela Hartley (Lima, Peru/Franklin Roosevelt College) won 8-1 respectively.
In singles play, Bungarden, Solberg, Lawrence, and Ochrymowicz won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 singles respectively.
Zwiener had no problem in her No. 1 singles match winning 6-1, 6-1 and Hartley rounded out the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles.
Lawrence has now won six straight matches as she improves to 8-3 on the season. Zwiener is now 8-4, Solberg is 8-3 and Bungarden is now 8-6 this year.
The Saints (8-5, 2-0 UMAC) will be in action again next weekend when they travel to St. Paul to take on the Northwestern Eagles (3-8) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. CSS will then travel to New Ulm on Saturday to match up with the Martin Luther Knights (0-2) at 3 p.m.
