Women’s Tennis Drops Florida Finale to Illinois Wesleyan

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team wrapped up play in Orlando Friday morning with a 6-3 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University.

Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) were the lone doubles winners for the Saints, coming out on top at the No. 3 spot 8-1.

Lawrence also won at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph. Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) was the other singles winner, taking the No. 6 match 6-3, 6-4.

The Saints lost three matches in tiebreaking fashion, which could have swung the dual in CSS's favor. The No. 1 doubles team of Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) lost 9-8 (7-4). Bungarden also lost in a third set super-breaker at No. 1 singles 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, (10-5). Aleksandra Ochrymowicz (Winnipeg, Manitoba/St. Mary’s Academy) lost at No. 3 in a super-breaker 3-6, 7-5, (10-6). The Titans improve to 6-7 with the win.

The Saints (6-5) will begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action next weekend when they travel to face both Bethany Lutheran College on Friday and North Central University on Saturday.
