ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team fell just short against Saint Mary's College (Ind.) on Tuesday, losing by a 5-4 score.

The Saints were swept in all three doubles matches, but made a match of it in singles play.

At No. 1, Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) prevailed in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) also won in straight sets at the No. 6 spot 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

The Belles (4-1) won at No. 5 in straight sets, but matches two thru four would all go three sets. CSS's Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) won at No. 2 by scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Cortne Solberg (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) also came from a set down at the No. 4 spot to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) was playing at No. 3 and if she won the Saints took the match. Gunderson, who had been unbeaten this season, would suffer her first defeat of the year by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

The Saints (4-4) will have off tomorrow, but will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) in the morning and Wisconsin Lutheran College in the afternoon.
