MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team won its second consecutive match with a 7-2 victory over Hamline University on Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Saints swept the doubles matches for the first time this season. The No. 1 team of
Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) and
Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won 8-4. The No. 2 team of
Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) and
Cortne Solberg (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) won 9-7 to remain unbeaten. The No. 3 team of
Allie Carlson (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) and
Jill Kammerer (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) won 8-5.
In singles play, Bungarden won at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-1. After dropping the first set, Zwiener rallied to win at No. 2 by scored of 4-6, 6-2, (10-2).
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won at the No. 4 spot 6-4, 6-2 and Solberg was the final winner at No. 5 by scores of 6-3, 6-1. With the loss the Pipers fall to 0-2 on the young year.
The Saints (2-1) will play their third match in three days tomorrow when they head to Winona to face Saint Mary's University. That is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
