Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team used six 3-point baskets by
Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) in the first half and never looked back as the Saints rolled to a 77-55 victory over Martin Luther College Friday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
The Saints started out hot as the game saw Hamers score three consecutive 3-point baskets, but Martin Luther would answer each ensuing possession and the scored would be tied at 11 with 14:27 left in the first half. The Saints would take the lead for good with 12:54 left in the half. The Saints would eventually take a nine point lead, 42-33, into the break.
The second half started with the Saints being issued a technical foul. Both free throws would be made and the Knights would trail only by seven. The Saints would never relinquish the lead and saw the lead get as high as 25. The rest of the game was played with both teams utilizing their respective benches and the Saints would go onto win 77-55.
The Knights (1-19, 1-9 UMAC) would be led by Galen Holzhueter who was the only Knight player to score in double figures with 16. The Knights would finish the game shooting 36-percent from the field, 23-percent from beyond the arc, and 72-percent from the charity stripe.
The Knights would grab 41 total rebounds and commit 15 turnovers. The Knights never were able to capture the lead during the game.
The Saints were led by Hamers who scored 23 points, with 18 of those points coming in the first half.
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) chipped in with 15 points while
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had another solid night with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Thad Picott (Fridley, Minn./Fridley HS) added nine points off of the bench.
The Saints would finish the game shooting 51-percent from the field, 46-percent from beyond the arc, and 55-percent from the free throw line. The Saints would collect 34 total rebounds and only commit a season best nine turnovers.
The Saints (11-10, 8-2 UMAC) will face conference standings leader Bethany Lutheran tomorrow with tip scheduled for 5 pm local time in the Reif Gymnasium. That game can also be viewed on Game Central which can be found on csssaints.com
