Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was victim to a 16-0 opening run by the UW-River Falls Falcons and was never able to recover for the rest of the game and fell 76-54 Wednesday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
The Falcons jumped out quickly scoring the games first 18 points. The Saints finally were able to put points on the board at the 14:38 mark with a layup from
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS).
The Saints chipped and clawed to only be down 14 points with just less than six minutes left in the half. UW-River Falls never let the Saints get any closer and went into the half leading CSS 43-20.
The second half was much of the same as the Falcons were able to connect on multiple back door cuts. UW-River Falls was able to extend its lead to as much as 27 points in the second half. The Saints found few opportunities to make any sort of run to cut into the lead and eventually would fall 76-54.
UW-River Falls (4-1) was led by Brooke Lauritzen with 20 points, six rebounds, and four blocks. Two other Falcons scored in double digits.
The Falcons would finish the game shooting 53-percent from the field, 83-percent from the free-throw line, and did not make a 3-pointer. The Falcons were 0-for-4 for the night from beyond the arc.
The Falcons would grab 35 total rebounds, garner 15 steals, but would commit 20 turnovers.
CSS was led by
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) with 14 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 11 points for the Saints. Huber chipped in with 10 points as well.
As a team the Saints shot 32-percent from the field (18-55), 13-percent from beyond the arc (2-15), and 73-percent from the charity stripe (16-22).
CSS would grab 32 rebounds, accumulate 10 steals, but would turn the ball over 23 times.
The Saints (0-5) will look for their first win of the season this Saturday as they host Finlandia University (Mich.) at the Reif Gymnasium with tip scheduled for 3 p.m. local time. Tune into Saints Sports Net via csssaints.com for live video for that game.
