Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was victim to a 15-3 Augsburg College run to open the game and eventually fell to the Auggies by a score of 77-50 Tuesday night at Reif Gymnasium.
Augsburg, playing for the first time this year, was hot out of the gate and jumped to a 9-0 lead before the Saints got their first points of the game with just over four minutes gone by. The Auggies controlled the pace well throughout the first half found themselves leading by 22 points, 32-10, with 6:25 remaining in the half. Augsburg went into the half with a 42-18 lead.
The second half was much of the same from both squads and the Saints were only to get as close as 22 points down and would eventually lose 77-50.
Augsburg (1-0) had four players in double figures for scoring with Anne Skriba leading the way with 16 points. The team shot 43 percent from the field, 41 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the charity stripe.
The Auggies committed only 12 turnovers, while stealing the ball 18 times from the Saints and also had six blocks on the night.
CSS was led by freshman
Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS) with 10 points, while
Erin Frase (Phillips, Wis./Phillips HS (UW-River Falls)) chipped in with eight points of her own.
The Saints had a tough night shooting, only going 15-for-59 (25 percent) from the field and only 16 percent from beyond the arc. The Saints did have a higher free-throw percentage than the Auggies at 81 percent. CSS committed 26 turnovers and had only five assists for the whole game.
The Saints 90-2) will travel to UW-Stout this Saturday to take part in the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout hosted by the Blue Devils. The Saints will play UW-Stout on Saturday and then the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Sunday. Tune into csssaints.com for information about audio/video for these games.
