Watt Scores in Waning Moments, Men’s Soccer Clinches UMAC's Top Spot

| By:
Box Score MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) scored in the final 68 seconds for the St. Scholastica's men's soccer team to both clinch the number one seed in the UMAC Tournament and claim a 2-1 victory over the University of Minnesota Morris on Friday.

Rob Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would get the Saints on the board first, as he would tally his ninth goal of the season at 21:53.  Watt was credited with the assist on the goal, increasing his assist total to 20, good enough for most assists both in the UMAC and nation.

Morris would tie things up when Devin Chuba put one past Hewitt after a free kick in the 39th minute and the game would be even heading into halftime.

The second half was characterized by numerous fouls and cards, as Morris received four yellow cards and had 12 fouls, while CSS was handed one red card, three yellow cards and had three fouls. The Saints would have to play a man down for the final 25 minutes of the game.

That didn't deter the Saints as Watt would hit the back of the net with one minute and eight seconds left in regulation to give CSS the 2-1 victory. Ben Cullen (Clough, Northern Ireland/Shimna Integrated College) and Antony Blackburn (Derby, England/John Port School) assisted the goal.  The goal now ties Watt for the most points in the UMAC with 38 points.

Goalkeeper Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) made three saves for CSS in the win, while Morris' keeper Jacob Borash had four saves in the loss.

The Saints improve to 11-0-0 in the UMAC, and 13-3-0 overall. The Cougars are now 9-7-1 overall and 8-3-0 in UMAC play.

The Saints will look to capture the conference outright tomorrow at Crown College. Action is set to kick off at noon in St. Bonifacius.
