DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's basketball teams will kick-off Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action on Tuesday night at Reif Gymnasium as both teams welcome Northland College in town for a doubleheader.

Men's Basketball

Last Action: 
The Saints won their second straight game with an 82-73 victory over North Central University on Friday night at Reif Gymnasium. Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) led four Saints in double-figures with 20 points.

St. Scholastica Saints (3-8)
The Saints closed out non-conference play for the 2011-12 season by winning their last two games and seem to be in a groove heading into UMAC play … The Saints are picked to finish fourth in the league, according to the preseason coaches poll … All three wins this season for the Saints have come in the last three home games … CSS has made 25, 3-pointers in its last two games after making only 23 in the previous five games combined … Hamers has started to catch fire from beyond the arc, going 14-for-24 in the last two contests … Hamers is ranked 16th in NCAA Division III, averaging 3.3, 3-point field goals per game … The Saints had two players record double-doubles in Friday's win over North Central as Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) registered 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had 12 points and 10 rebounds …  It was the first time two Saints recorded a double-double in a game since Jan. 29, 2005 when Josh Gosar and David Kapuan did it and the 10th time since 1994 that is has happened … Freshman guard Derek Steve (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS) scored a collegiate-high 18 points and seven rebounds against North Central … Steve has scored in double-figures in each of the last three games, all of which he has started … The Saints made a season-high 17 free throws on Friday night, but are still making only 61-percent on the year … Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) will enter Tuesday's game with exactly 900 points for his career … Hamers currently had 744 career points and is just 14 away from cracking the program's top 20 list.

Northland LumberJacks (1-9)
Northland's lone this season came at home against North Central in Mid-December … Since that one victory the LumberJacks have lost four straight games … The 'Jacks are picked to finish last in the conference this season … The 'Jacks do return Michael Mackey, who missed most of last season due to injury … So far this season Mackey is averaging 11.3 points per game … Adrian Flores leads the team in scoring at 15.1 per game …  Flores has led the team in scoring in four of the last five games … The 'Jacks also return sophomore Sean Augustyn and Justin Hughes, who suffered a season ending injury after appearing in seven games … Opponents are shooting 50-percent against Northland this season.

Women's Basketball

Last Action: 
The Saints last played on New Year's Eve at Fontbonne University (Mo.) and fell by a score of 60-59. CSS led by five with four minutes to go before falling. Taylor Fellbaum (Minong, Wis./Northwood HS) had 14 points to lead the Saints.

St. Scholastica Saints (2-9)
The Saints will enter conference play on Tuesday on a three-game losing skid … CSS has played just two games at home up to this point in the season, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the season opener and then defeating Finlandia University (Mich.) in mid-December … The biggest reason for the loss against Fontbonne to close out 2011 was free throws … The Saints shot 4-for-15 from the charity stripe for the game … In fact, in the two games in St. Louis, the Saints had their two worst free throw shooting performances of the season … As the Saints enter conference play, they will be without guard Sammy Doucette (Colfax, Wis./Colfax HS (UW-River Falls)) for the rest of the season due to injury … In the first three games of the season, Doucette averaged 10.7 points per game … Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) currently leads the team in scoring at 11. 8 points per game … Freshman guard Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) is next at 10.5 points per game … The Saints are picked to finish tied for fifth in the conference, according to the preseason coaches' poll, but did receive two first-place votes.

Northland LumberJills (4-6)
The LumberJills snapped a three-game losing streak with a three-point win at Marian University (Wis.) on Wednesday … Of their six losses this season, two came in overtime and another by just two points … The 'Jills are picked to finish second in the UMAC this season … Northland returns five seniors and three juniors and graduated only one senior … The LumberJills return all of their shooters from a team that has lead the UMAC in 3-point shooting over the last two years … The 'Jills are ranked fifth in the country this season in 3-point field goals per game (8.4) … Maria Mackey led the LumberJills in scoring last season with 13.7 points per game and was one of the league's top three-point shooters … So far this season Mackey leads the team in scoring once again at 16.6 points per game and is 12th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (46.0) … Sam Stanfield is second on the team at 10 points per game.
