ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team began Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with a 5-0 victory over Northland College on Tuesday.

The Saints controlled the action from start to finish, outshooting the LumberJacks 28-3 in the game. CSS got its first goal just 56 seconds into the contest as Erik Trochimchuk (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold HS) scored his second in as many games.

It remained 1-0 until the 42nd minute when Ben Wallace (Glasgow, Scotland/Shawlands Academy) scored his first of the season to make it 2-0 at halftime. Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) and Antony Blackburn (Derby, England/John Port School) had the assists.

Just less than 10 minutes into the second half, Brandon Stemwedel (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) netted his second of the season to extend the margin to 3-0. Ben Cullen (Clough, Northern Ireland/Shimna Integrated College) scored his first collegiate goal in the 68th minute to make it 4-0.

The final score of the game came from Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) in the 86th minute thanks to assists from Ace Amin (Vasteras, Sweden/Rudbeckianska Gym) and Tony Nixon (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) to make the final 5-0. Farrar has registered at least one point in four of the first five games.

Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) made two saves to earn his first shutout of the season and his 29th of his career. He needs just one more to tie the program-mark. Matt Larsen had 12 saves in the loss for the 'Jacks (0-5-0, 0-1-0 UMAC). The Saints have now outscored the 'Jacks 18-0 in the last two games and have won the last 12 meetings.

The Saints (4-1-0, 1-0-0 UMAC) return home this weekend when they continue UMAC play against Martin Luther College on Friday and Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday. The Martin Luther contest will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. All of the action can be seen live on GameCentral at csssaints.com.
