Women’s Tennis Tops UMAC Competitors

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated both Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College 8-1 and 9-0, respectively, on Saturday.

The Saints opened the day with Martin Luther College in the Burns Wellness Commons Fieldhouse and won 8-1. The Knights fell to a record of 3-4 (3-2 UMAC) with the loss.

CSS had no trouble in doubles action as the No. 1 team of #Callee Conda# and #Danni Sonnenfeld# won 8-0. It was the same result for the No. 2 team of #Ali Bernst# and #Hillary Bungarden#. The No. 3 duo of #Kelsey Geiger# and #Megan Lawrence# prevailed 8-2.

In singles, Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) won at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) came through with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. #Milly Che Leon# also came out on top at No. 3 by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

#Pamela Hartley# picked up the win at No. 5 in a super-breaker 4-6, 6-1, (10-4). #Jill Kammerer# was the final winner at No. 6 by scores of 6-2, 6-2.

In the nightcap, the Saints defeated Bethany Lutheran College 9-0. The loss drops the Vikings record to 1-9 (1-5 UMAC).

The No. 1 doubles team of Conda and Sonnenfeld continued to cruise through the UMAC winning 8-1. #Liz Coyne# and #Allie Carlson# won at No. 2 by a score of 8-3. The No. 3 tandem of Jill Kammerer (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) and Megan Lawrence (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) won 8-0.

In singles, Conda at No. 1, Sonnenfeld at No. 2, and #Aleksandra Ochrymowicz# at No. 4 all won by shutout 6-0, 6-0. #Kelli Johnson# won at No. 3 by scores of 6-2, 6-4. Pamela Hartley (Lima, Peru/Franklin Roosevelt College) gave up just one game at the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-0. The final winner on the day was Kelsey Geiger (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) at No. 6 by scores of 7-5, 6-3.

The Saints improve to a record of 17-4 (7-0 UMAC). CSS runs its conference winning streak to 88 straight UMAC dual meet victories.

The Saints will play the University of Minnesota-Morris in two matches tomorrow. The first match will begin at 11 a.m. in the Burns Wellness Commons Fieldhouse.
