Women’s Tennis Goes 1-1 on Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team fell to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 6-3, but responded with a 7-2 triumph over Schreiner University (Texas) on Wednesday.

The Saints (8-4) were defeated in the first match of the day by UW-La Crosse 6-3. The Eagles improved to 13-3 with the win.

The No. 2 doubles team of #Amanda Hiatt# and #Danni Sonnenfeld# won 8-1. Hiatt also won at the No. 4 singles spot 6-1, 6-0. The other singles win came from #Hillary Bungarden#, who was victorious in a super-breaker 3-6, 6-0, (10-7).

In the second match, the Saints defeated Schreiner 7-2. CSS swept the doubles matches. The No. 1 team of #Callee Conda# and Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) won 8-4. The No. 2 team of #Kelli Johnson# and #Ali Bernst# won 8-6 and the No. 3 team of #Liz Coyne# and #Aleksandra Ochrymowicz# won 8-2.

In singles, Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-1. Bungarden has now won 12 straight singles matches. Kelli Johnson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) defeated her opponent at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3, #Megan Lawrence# had no trouble, winning 6-3, 6-0. #Kelsey Geiger# had the final win on the day by scores of 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Saints have Thursday off and will play their final dual match in Florida on Friday when they take on Saint Mary's College (Ind.) at 11:30 a.m. local time.
