Women’s Tennis Wins Two to Open Florida Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team swept both Simpson College (Iowa) and Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) 8-1 and 7-2, respectively, in Orlando on Monday.

The Saints (6-3) cruised over Simpson to begin the day, winning 8-1. CSS swept the doubles matches. The No. 1 team of #Callee Conda# and #Danni Sonnenfeld# won 8-3. The No. 2 team of #Hillary Bungarden# and #Amanda Hiatt# came out on top 8-1 and the No. 3 duo of #Allie Carlson# and #Ali Bernst# won 8-4.

The Saints won the top five singles matches and came a super-breaker away from taking all six matches. Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) won her fifth straight match at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-0. At No. 2, #Milly Che Leon# was victorious 6-3, 6-2.

Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) blanked her opponent at the No. 3 position and Hillary Bungarden (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) dropped just one game at No. 5 to win her ninth straight match. Amanda Hiatt (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) rallied to win at the No. 4 spot 3-6, 6-1, (10-7).

Later in the evening, the Saints prevailed over NAIA's Saint Ambrose 7-2.

Once again the Saints swept the doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Conda and Sonnenfeld was victorious 8-3. The No. 2 team of Ali Bernst (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold HS) and #Kelli Johnson# won 8-4. #Liz Coyne# and #Jill Kammerer# also won at the No. 3 spot 8-2.

In singles action, Bungarden kept her singles win streak going at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-3. The other three singles wins came from three players who each earned their first collegiate singles win. At No. 4, #Aleksandra Ochrymowicz# won 6-3, 6-4. At No. 5, #Pamela Hartley# won 6-2, 6-4 and at No. 6, #Kelsey Geiger# won 6-3, 6-3.

The Saints will face Carthage College (Wis.) tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. local time.
