MANKATO, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team finished the weekend with a key 70-61 win against Bethany Lutheran College Saturday.
The Saints (9-12, 6-6 UMAC) started out game strong with a 15-3 run in the first six minutes of the game. They then followed with a 9-0 run, finishing the first half with a 20-point lead.
CSS went on an 8-0 run against Bethany (8-14, 4-8 UMAC) half way through the second half to extend its lead to as much as 25. However, the Vikings quickly answered with a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 10, but the Saints proved to be too much in a 70-61 victory.
The Saints shot 43-percent for the game, while the Vikings shot 32-percent. Both teams had a combined 34 turnovers. The Saints shot 80-percent from the charity line and Bethany shot 77-percent.
Four players scored double digits in tonight's game for CSS. #Kelly Cinquegrani# led the Saints with 15 points. #Bri Allen# had a team-high eight rebounds. Jessica Englund led Bethany with 23-points.
The Saints will play the final two games of the regular season this weekend. Major playoff implications are on the line as the Saints will enter the weekend. CSS is currently tied with Martin Luther for the final tournament spot, but the Knights hold the tiebreaker. The Saints will probably need to win both games.
