Men's Skiing Puts Two in Top 10, Five in Top 20 at CCSA Championships

ISHPEMING, Mich. – Sophomore #Jeremy Hecker# led the St. Scholastica men skiers Saturday, finishing sixth in the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships 10km freestyle in a time of 31:35.4.

Northern Michigan University's Andy Liebner took the conference skate title in a time of 29:24.6. Liebner led a sweep of the podium, and subsequently the team standings after day one. Teammates Erik Soderman and Chris Bowler, finished second and third in 30:45.4 and 31:06.6, respectively.

Saints senior #Waylon Manske# finished 10th in 32:08.5, while freshman #Scott Johanik# finished 13th in at time of 32:31.2 to round out the Saints scoring. The Saints posted one of their deepest finishes in CCSA competition with sophomore #Kelin Dunfee# in 15th, sophomore #Kasey Bacso# in 17th, putting five Saints men in the top 20. The Saints finished third as a team on day one of the conference championship. Northern Michigan finished first and Alaska-Fairbanks finished second.

The CCSA Championships conclude Sunday with the 20km mass start classic. The CCSA team champions will win the inaugural Butch Reimer Cup, named for the long-time UW-Green Bay coach who passed away suddenly this past fall.
