PREVIEW: Basketball Teams to have Final Road Trip of the Regular Season this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's basketball teams will play their final road games of the year when both travel to Martin Luther College and Bethany Lutheran College on Friday and Saturday.

Friday vs. Martin Luther: Women @ 5:30 p.m., Men @ 7:30 p.m.
Saturday vs. Bethany Lutheran: Women @ 3:00 p.m., Men @ 5:00 p.m.

The Saints defeated Crown on Saturday night 77-64 to get a weekend split after falling to Northwestern College the night before. Four Saints scored in double-digits on the night with #Derek Anderson# leading the way with 16. Arguably the most important points of the night came from #Danny Schmitz# after he missed a 3-point shot, he grabbed his own rebound and put up the layup to become just the ninth Saint to ever score 1,000 points in his career. Schmitz had a solid game all around with 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

St. Scholastica Saints (9-12, 6-4 UMAC)
The Saints continue conference play in a tie for third place in the current UMAC standings with one of their opponents this weekend: Bethany Lutheran … The Vikings hold the tiebreaker after winning the earlier match-up between the two teams … Remember that this season, only four teams make the conference postseason tournament … Both Bethany and CSS hold a two-game lead over fifth-place Martin Luther … Sophomore #Brett Tester# continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game … Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS), Derek Anderson (Cook, Minn./Cook HS) and #Sean Mayberry# are all averaging over 10 points … #Jonah Dahlman# has come on as of late as he has scored double digits in six of his last seven games to average 11.6 points over that span, which brings his season scoring average up 9.2 … As a team the Saints are near the bottom of the league in scoring offense with 65.5 points per game, but make up for it with the second best scoring defense at72.3 points per game.

Big brother Greg leads younger brother Garen in scoring with 13.5 compared to 12.4 per contest … Greg had a huge game in their last contest as he put up 34 points in the loss to Presentation … Galen leads the team in rebounding with 5.4 per game…As a team the Knights are putting up 70.2 points per game while giving up 79 on defense…

Bethany Lutheran Vikings (9-12, 6-4 UMAC)
The Vikings are 4-4 since leaving Duluth earlier in the season with a win … Bethany Lutheran is just 2-5 at home, while 7-7 on the road … The Vikings are 0-3 vs. the top two teams in the UMAC with one game left to play vs. Northwestern next weekend … Alex Weldon leads the Vikings in scoring at 14.2 with three of his teammates all averaging over 10 points per game … One of those three, Derek Petersen, leads the team in rebounds with 5.3 per contest … As a team the Vikings are scoring 77 points per game, third in the conference, but are giving up over 80 points per game.

The Saints led by as much as a 44-points over Crown this past Saturday as they finished with an 86-44 victory. CSS is in a tie for third with Northland and Martin Luther in the UMAC standings … On top of that, Bethany Lutheran just sits a game back of those three teams and Presentation is just two back with four games to play … This weekend will go a long way in determining playoff positioning going into the final weekend of games … #Bri Allen# continues to leads the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game … Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) is second on the team at 8.9 points per contest and has scored in double figures in four of the last five games … The Saints have had seven different players lead the team in scoring this year and have had five lead the team in rebounds … Amys and Allen lead the team in rebounding with 7.3 and 6.5 respectively…The Saints are putting up 58 points per game while giving up just under 62 points per game which is second best in the UMAC.
