DULUTH, Minn. – #Brett Tester# scored a game-high 23 points in leading the St. Scholastica men's basketball team to a 59-50 victory over Northland College on Tuesday night at Reif Gymnasium.

The LumberJacks (3-16, 1-7 UMAC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. The Saints (8-11, 5-3 UMAC) did not get their first field goal until the 15:48-mark. The 'Jacks led by as many eight before the Saints started chipping away and tied the game at 17-17 midway through the half.

Northland extended its lead back to six with three minutes to go in the first half, but the Saints closed the half on a 6-0 run with #Sean Mayberry# hitting a jumper in the waning moments of the first half to tie the game at 27 apiece at the half.

CSS shot just 31-percent in the first half, while the Northland was 48-percent from the field. Northland's Sean Augustyn had 11 points in just 12 minutes of action.

The Saints came out in the second half and took their first lead of the game with a 3-pointer by #Derek Anderson# with 19:24 on the clock. They then went on a 14-1 run to take a 44-31 lead with 13 minutes to go. Tester had eight of the 14 points.

Now, the Saints have had trouble closing out games this season, having dropped three games, in which they led by double-figures with 11 minutes to go this season. Tonight, CSS led by 12 with eight minutes to go, but would not make a field goal in the final 9 minutes and 15 seconds.

The 'Jacks got the margin down to three with 1:22 remaining, but the Saints went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line in the final 1:11 and held Northland scoreless to hang on for the 59-50 victory.

St. Scholastica was 11-for-13 from the free throw line in the final nine minutes of the game. The Saints needed all of those free throws, because they shot just 30-percent for the game. The LumberJacks shot 41-percent, but had 20 turnovers, which led to 21 Saints points.

Along with his game-high 23 points, Tester grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. #Jonah Dahlman# scored in double-figures for the fifth straight game with 14 points. Sean Augustyn finished with 18 points leading Northland.

The Saints will be back at the Reif on Friday and Saturday when they host Northwestern College on Friday night and Crown College for Alumni Day on Saturday. Friday's tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
