Saints Fall To St. Norbert in Game Two of Series

The Saints men's hockey team fell to the St. Norbert College Green Knights in the second game of the weekend series 6-3 at the Cornerstone Community Center on Saturday afternoon.

The loss to the Green Knights (7-3-3, 4-3-1 NCHA) snaps a six-game unbeaten streak for the Saints.

The Saints began the scoring in the first period when Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) scored an unassisted goal 8:42 into the game to give CSS a 1-0 lead early.

The Green Knights would strike back and tie it up when Joe Perry scored on a Johan Ryd assist and the score would remain 1-1 going into the first intermission.

CSS came out firing in the second period when Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) scored a power play goal just under five minutes in on assists from Corcoran and Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) to make it 2-1 in favor of the Saints.

The Saints went on to extend the lead just 40 seconds later when Joel Langevin (Nanaimo, British Columbia/Penticton Secondary (Fort William-SIJHL) ) notched his second goal of the weekend on assists from Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage.

The Green Knights answered four minutes later when Cody Keefer scored on another Ryd assist to cut the CSS lead down to one.

Cullen Bradshaw tied the game at two when he found the back of the net on assists from Marian Fiala and Kyle Stroh to make it a tie going into the second intermission as well.

The third period was all St. Norbert beginning with an Alain Joanette goal six minutes in on an assist from Chris Rial to give the Green Knights their first lead of the game.

Just a minute and a half later, Emil Haque scored on assists from Rial and Mason Baptista to give the Green Knights a two goal advantage.

Fiala would put the icing on the cake with 10 minutes to go when he scored a power play goal on assists from Bradshaw and Stroh to make it 6-3 St. Norbert, a score that would remain to be the final. 

Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) made 18 saves in the loss as his record falls to 4-3-2 on the year. 

Corcoran continues to lead the team in scoring now with 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists.  Dawes' goal gives him seven on the season and puts him in a tie with Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) for second on the team with 16 total points.

The Saints (7-3-2, 3-3-2 NCHA) will take almost a month off and be back on the ice on January 7 when they travel to St. Peter, Minn. to take on the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties (5-4-2) at 4 p.m.  Stay tuned to csssaints.com for game coverage.
