Saints Win Third Straight

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team won its third straight game with a 6-1 victory over Lawrence University (Wis.) on Saturday afternoon at the MCHA/NCHA Thanksgiving Showcase, hosted by Marian University.

The Saints, who scored the final three goals of last night's game to rally past the Sabres, scored the first six goals of today's contest against the Vikings. Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) registered a goal over five minutes into the game. Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) had the assist.

Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) made the score 2-0 CSS at the first intermission after putting the puck in the net with two minutes left in the period. Corcoran and Ryne Bodger (Duncan, British Columbia/Cowichan Secondary (Merritt-BCHL) ) assisted on the goal.

Corcoran then added a power-play goal one minute into the second period to make it 3-0. Corcoran now has seven goals and six assists for a team-high 13 points.

Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) added another tally six minutes into the period to make it 4-0. Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) and Garet Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS (Jersey-EJHL) ) added two more goals to make it 6-0. The Vikings scored an unassisted goal at the end of the second period to make the final score 6-1 CSS.

The three-game winning streak is the longest since January of 2010. Head coach Mark Wick is now just four wins away from 100 for his career.

Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) started between the pipes for the Saints and recorded 30 saves to earn his second win of the season. Anton Olsson made 31 saves in the loss for the Vikings (3-2-3). Both teams committed five penalties for 10 minutes.

The Saints (5-2-1) return to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action next weekend when they host the University of Wisconsin-Stout at Mars Lakeview Arena for a two-game series. The first game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night and can be seen live at csssaints.com.
