The Saints men's soccer team squeaked by the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars 1-0 at Saints Field on Sunday to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Saints now lead the season series over the Cougars (7-4-2, 6-2-0 UMAC) two games to none, as CSS beat Minn.-Morris earlier this season 1-0 as well.
The two teams were first and second in the conference coming into this game and they showed it as neither team's defense seemed to give early on.
It wasn't until the 39th minute that either team got on the board when
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) scored on a cross from
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) to put the Saints ahead 1-0.
Ace Amin (Vasteras, Sweden/Rudbeckianska Gym) was also credited with an assist on the play.
Farrar's goal proved to be enough as the two teams were once again deadlocked in the second half and St. Scholastica went on to take down the Cougars 1-0.
Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) earned his sixth shutout on the year, improving his record to 10-3-1, only needing two saves for the win. Tyler Weber was the goalkeeper on record for the Cougars and made five saves as he fell to 7-4-2 on the season.
Farrar increased his team-leading point total to 29 on the season with his goal, while Watt is right behind him, upping his total to 23 with his assist in the game.
The Saints (11-3-1, 7-0-1 UMAC) will be in action again next weekend when they travel to Mankato, Minn. to take on the Bethany Lutheran Vikings (4-9-0, 2-6-0 UMAC) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Saints will then be at Martin Luther College to take on the Knights (3-11-0, 1-7-0 UMAC) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
