Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) made five saves to shutout the Crown College Storm 3-0 in St. Bonifacius Saturday, earning his record-breaking 48th career win.
With the victory over the Storm (4-4, 3-2 UMAC), the Saints remain undefeated in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) on the season.
CSS didn't waste any time in this game as
Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) scored a goal in the 10th minute on an assist from
Brandon Stemwedel (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) to give the Saints an early 1-0 advantage.
The scoring would continue for St. Scholastica 15 minutes later when
Ace Amin (Vasteras, Sweden/Rudbeckianska Gym) put a free kick into the back of the net to give the Saints a 2-0 lead that they would eventually take into halftime.
It only took 15 minutes in the second half for the Saints to find the back of the net, as Stemwedel upped his point total on the day to three with an unassisted goal in the 59th minute. This gave the Saints a 3-0 advantage that they would leave the field with, taking down the Storm.
St. Scholastica had the advantage in the shot column, outshooting Crown 14-8 on the day.
Reed's record improves to 8-1-1 on the season. Chris Scanlon made seven saves for the Storm on the day as his record drops to 4-4-0 on the season.
Stemwedel's goal and assist tie him with Watt for second on the team in points with 15. Amin's goal gives him six total points on the season.
The Saints (8-1-1, 5-0-1 UMAC) will be back home next Friday to take on the Northland College Lumberjacks (1-9-0, 0-5-0 UMAC) at Saints Field at 4 p.m.
