Men’s Hockey finishes Weekend 1-1 after Loss to Falcons

DULUTH, Minn. – The St Scholastica men's hockey team fell 5-3 against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Saturday night at the Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints controlled the Falcons in the opening 20 minutes, out-shooting them 14-5. With one minute remaining in the first period, junior #Jeremy Dawes# put the Saints on the board for his seventh goal of the season. He was assisted by seniors #Riley Riddell# and #Neil Sauter#.

River Falls took the lead away from CSS scoring two goals in the first nine minutes of the second period.

After a five-minute major penalty against the Falcons, #Carter Davis# tied the game up for the Saints on the power-play with seven minutes remaining in the period. #Brenden Bradbury# and sophomore #Erik Kraft# had the assists.

Less than two minutes later and still on the power-play, freshman #Ryne Bodger# scored his first goal of the season to make it 3-2 CSS. Freshman #Alex Valenti# and Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) each had assists.

The Falcons' Ryan Goodmanson quickly tied the game up with three minutes left in the second period.

It was Goodmanson scoring again to put River Falls up 4-3 with 13 minutes to play in the third period. The Falcons added an empty-netter late to make the final score 5-3.

Junior #Brennan Poderzay# started in goal for the Saints, making 21 saves in the loss. Scott Lewan made 28 saves for the Falcons, coming out with the victory.

St. Scholastica falls to 9-11-1 for the season (4-10-0 NCHA). River Falls improves to 9-11-1 (5-9-0 NCHA).

The Saints will hit the road next weekend to take on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Friday night in one of two Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) games for the Saints next weekend. You can follow the action on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m.
