Men’s Basketball’s Winning Streak Comes to an End

ST. PAUL – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team's three-game winning streak ended by the hands of Northwestern College on Saturday afternoon by a score of 79-64 at the Ericksen Center.

The Eagles would make their first three shoots to go up by 6-0, a lead in which Northwestern would never let go of for the entire game.

Going into the locker rooms, #Danny Schmitz# would be the games scoring leader with 11 points. St Scholastica shot 39-percent from the field, while Northwestern shot 61-percent.

At the 12:13 mark in the second half, the Saints were trailing the Eagles 50-46; it was the closest the game would get besides the early moments of the first half. Northwestern would eventually pull away with a 29-18 run to end the game.

Northwestern would collect 36 rebounds, and 34 points in the paint. The Saints would end the night shooting 44-percent from the field. The Eagles found their groove from behind the arc shooting 47-percent.

Danny Schmitz (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) was the game's scoring leader with 19 points in the losing effort. Northwestern's Nate Thompson would lead the Eagles with 18 points. The Saints had five players score in double-digits, despite just scoring 64 points.

The Saints will be on the road again next weekend as they take on Presentation College on Friday night and the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. Friday's game against Presentation is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
