DULUTH, Minn. – #Cody Sveiven# scored four goals off the bench and #Jermaine Dacres# added a hat trick of his own as the St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated Presentation College 11-0 on Sunday at Saints Field.
The 11 goals scored the by the Saints (7-2-1, 4-0-1 UMAC) matched a program record last set during the 1993 season. The Saints also broke program records for assists (12) and points (34) in a game. CSS out-shot Presentation (2-6-0, 1-3-0 UMAC) 32-2 in the match.
After a relatively evenly played first 20 minutes of action the Saints began the onslaught when
Jermaine Dacres (Nottingham, England/Haywood School) bent a free kick just outside of the box into the top right corner of the net in the 22nd minute. It was Dacres again a little over three minutes later with an assist coming from #Rob Johnson#.
In the 29th minute, #Toby Peter# put a header into the back of the net to make it 3-0. Dacres and #KeOntay Berg# had the assists. Dacres completed the hat trick in the 33rd minute with an assist from #Greg Doornink#.
Cody Sveiven (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) scored his first goal of the day in the 40th minute with an assist from #Brandon Stemwedel# to make the halftime score 5-0.
The Saints kept it rolling in the second half as #Joe Watt# scored his first collegiate goal in the 64th minute. Dacres and #Ryan Scheller# had the assists.
#Erik Trochimchuk# netted his second of the season in the 66th minute and Sveiven added his second of the day in the 79th minute. #Dustin James# had the assist on Sveiven's tally.
#Andrew Ndekwe# added his first goal of the season and his first since the 2007 season in the 84th minute to make it 9-0.
Sveiven then would score two more goals in the final three minutes to give him four on the day and give the Saints the 11-0 victory. With his eight points today, Sveiven moves into the top 10 of the program's scoring list with 73 career points.
Jermaine Dacres (Nottingham, England/Haywood School) also had eight points today and with that he springs all the way to a tie for 13th on the program's all-time scoring list with 57 points.
#Sam Reed# earned his fifth shutout of the season and his 20th of his career.
