Adam Hewitt earns first career win in first collegiate start

NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team earned its fourth straight victory after a 5-1 defeat of Martin Luther College early Friday evening.

The Saints (4-2, 2-0 UMAC) got on the board just 4:30 into the contest as #Toby Peter# scored an unassisted goal. It was Peter again in the 31st minute that put the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0. #Dustin James# assisted on the tally.

Peter now has 89 career points, which is tied for sixth in program history with Pete Creager (1986-89).

The Knights (1-2, 0-1 UMAC) cut the lead in half with seven minutes left in the first half on a Nathan Gurgel score. CSS had a 22-2 shot advantage in the first half.

Four minutes into the second half, #Rob Johnson# made the score 3-1 with his second goal of the season. Johnson added his third goal in the 63rd minute to make it 4-1. #Brandon Stemwedel# had the assists on both Johnson goals.

A little over two minutes after Johnson's second goal, #Jermaine Dacres# netted his second goal of the season to make the final score 5-1. The Saints improve to 20-9-0 all-time against the Knights.

For the first time since October 17, 2008, #Sam Reed# did not start in net for the Saints. In his first collegiate action, #Adam Hewitt# had won save to earn his first career victory.

The Saints out-shot Martin Luther 38-4 and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Saints will be in action again tomorrow when they face Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 2 p.m. following the women's contest.
