DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team put a wrap on its regular season today with an 8-1 victory over Bethany Lutheran College in the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints finish the regular season with a spring record of 15-8 and a 10-0 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) record. CSS extends its conference winning streak to 81 matches. The Vikings fall to 2-12 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The Saints dropped just one game in the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of #Katie Motley# (
Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Kelly Ross# (
Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) won 8-0. The win for Motley was her 66th career doubles victory, which ties a program record.
The No. 2 team of #Angela Shields# (
Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) and #Megan Carlson# (
Sr.-Pine City, Minn.) won 8-1 and the No. 3 team of #Ali Bernst# (
So.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) and #Liz Coyne# (
So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) won 8-0.
In singles action, Motley won at the No. 1 spot 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2, Ross took care of business 6-1, 6-1. Shields won at the No. 3 flight 6-2, 6-0. #Milly Che Leon# (
Fr.-Lima, Peru) shut out her opponent at the No. 4 position for her sixth straight win and #Megan Lawrence# (
Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) won her fifth in a row at the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-0.
The Saints will take part in the UMAC Postseason Tournament in a couple of weeks at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campus. Matches will take place Friday evening and all day Saturday.
