WOMEN’S TENNIS CAPTURES 14TH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE TITLE

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team clinched its 14th straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship today with a 9-0 win over the University of Minnesota-Morris.

The Saints improve to 14-8 this spring season and 15-8 overall. CSS is 9-0 in UMAC matches and has won 80 straight against conference foes. The Cougars fall to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

CSS cruised in the three doubles matches, surrendering just one game out of the three. The No. 1 team of #Danni Sonnenfeld# (Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) and #Milly Che Leon# (Fr.-Lima, Peru) won 8-1. The No. 2 team of #Liz Coyne# (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and #Ali Bernst# (So.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) and the No. 3 team of #Megan Lawrence# (Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) and #Jill Kammerer# (Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) won by 8-0 scores.

In singles action, Sonnenfeld won at the No. 1 position 6-0, 6-0. Che Leon won her fifth straight match at the No.2 spot 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3, Coyne prevailed 6-2, 6-1 for her sixth straight win. Bernst at No. 4, Lawrence at No.5, and Kammerer at No. 6 all shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0.

The Saints will conclude their regular season on Saturday when they host Bethany Lutheran College at the Central High School tennis courts. The action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
