PATTEN WINS NO. 200 AS WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS

DULUTH, Minn. – Head St. Scholastica Women's Tennis Coach Wells Patten earned his 200th victory on Saturday as the Saints swept Northwestern College and Martin Luther College 8-1 and 9-0, respectively.

The Saints improve to 13-8 in the spring season and 14-8 overall and extend their conference winning streak to 79. Patten needs just two more wins on the men's side to reach 150 coaching victories.

Against Northwestern to begin the day, the No. 1 doubles team of #Callee Conda# (Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Danni Sonnenfeld# (Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) won 8-0. The No. 2 team of #Katie Motley# (Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Kelly Ross# (Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) won 8-2 and the No. 3 team of #Megan Carlson# (Sr.-Pine City, Minn.) and #Angela Shields# (Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) won 8-1.

In singles competition, Motley won at the No. 1 flight 6-4, 6-1. Sonnenfeld shut out her opponent at the No. 3 spot and Ross allowed just one game at the No. 4 spot 6-1, 6-0. That was the same score at the No. 5 flight as Shields came out on top and at No. 6 #Milly Che Leon# (Fr.-Lima, Peru) won 6-1, 6-1.

The Saints concluded the day with a 9-0 victory over Martin Luther College. The No. 1 doubles team of Motley and Sonnenfeld won 8-4. The No. 2 team of Carlson and Shields and the No.3 team of #Ali Bernst# (So.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) and #Liz Coyne# (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) won by 8-1 scores.

At No. 1 singles, Motley won again 6-4, 6-1. Sonnenfeld won at the No.2 flight 6-1, 6-1 and Ross won at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-3. At No. 4, Che Leon was victorious 6-1, 6-1 and Coyne blanked her opponent at the No. 5 spot. #Megan Lawrence# (Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) was the final winner on the day at the No. 6 flight 6-0, 6-1.

The Saints will host the University of Minnesota-Morris tomorrow starting at noon at the Central High School tennis courts.
