WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS NORTH CENTRAL

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team shut out North Central University today 9-0 at the Central High School tennis courts.

The Saints improve to 11-8 in the spring season and 12-8 overall and extend their conference winning streak to 77. The Rams fall to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

The Saints dropped just two total games in the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of #Katie Motley# (Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Kelly Ross# (Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) won 8-1 as did the No. 2 team of #Megan Carlson# (Sr.-Pine City, Minn.) and #Angela Shields# (Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway). The No. 3 team of #Liz Coyne# (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and #Jill Kammerer# (Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) blanked their opponents 8-0.

In singles play, Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) cruised at the No.1 spot 6-0, 6-2. At No. 2 #Danni Sonnenfeld# (Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) won by scores of 6-1, 6-0. #Milly Che Leon# (Fr.-Lima, Peru) was also won by those same scores at the No. 3 flight. At the No. 4, Liz Coyne (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 for her fourth straight victory. #Ali Bernst# (So.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) at the No. 5 spot and #Megan Lawrence# (Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) at the No. 6 spot both won by scores of 6-1, 6-0.

The Saints will have a couple of home matches tomorrow as they will face Northwestern College at 10 a.m. and Martin Luther College at 1 p.m. All of the action will take place at the Central High School tennis courts.
