WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO LUTHER, DEFEATS MORRIS

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team went to two different sites on Sunday and went 1-1 on the day, falling to Luther College (Iowa) 9-0 and defeating the University of Minnesota-Morris 8-1.

The Saints improve to 10-8 this spring and 11-8 overall.

The Saints fell to Luther College to begin the day in Lakeville, Minn. The Norse are ranked 25th in the nation in Division III, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). CSS lost four close matches against the Norse. At No. 1 doubles, the team of #Callee Conda# (Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Danni Sonnenfeld# (Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) lost in a tiebreak 9-8 (7-2). The No. 2 team of #Katie Motley# (Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Kelly Ross# (Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) lost 8-6.

In singles action, Conda fell at the No.2 spot in super tiebreak 6-1, 5-7, (10-3). Also, Sonnenfeld at the No. 3 flight fell 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).

The other half of the team defeated Minnesota-Morris to extend its conference winning streak to 76 straight matches.

The Saints swept all three doubles matches at Morris. The No. 1team of #Milly Che Leon# (Fr.-Lima, Peru) and #Katie Marcella# (Jr.-Virginia, Minn.) won 8-0. The No. 2 team of #Liz Coyne# (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and #Ali Bernst# (So.-Thunder Bay, Ont.) took care of business 8-3 and the No.3 team of #Megan Lawrence# (Fr.-Park Rapids, Minn.) and #Jill Kammerer# (Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) won 8-1. For Lawrence and Kammerer, it was their first collegiate matches.

In singles action, Che Leon won at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 6-2. Coyne won at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4, Bernst won 6-2, 6-3. Lawrence won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Kammerer won 6-0, 6-0 at No.6.

The Saints will be back at home next weekend when it hosts North Central University in a UMAC match at Central High School. The match will begin at 3 p.m.. If it rains, it will be moved to the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse on campus.
