Saints set three records over the last three days

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's track & field teams sent nine members to compete in the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University.

The meet consisted of over 1,200 competitors from 40 schools. It was a meet that consisted mostly of Division I schools and head coach Kirk Nauman thought his athletes performed well under the conditions. CSS set three school records and numerous personal records during the three days.

On Thursday and Friday, #Jackie Thelen# (Fr.-Randall, Minn./Little Falls) competed in the heptathlon, becoming the first CSS track athlete to compete in the event. Thelen finished 20th after day one with 2,149 points and was the second among Division III performers. On Friday, Thelen moved up one spot to finish 19th overall with 3.595 points. Thelen has personal-best efforts in the high jump and 800-meter runs, while competing in her first javelin throw, hurdle race, and 200-meter race.

Also on Friday, #Alec Seeley# (So.-Cadott, Wis.) broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 136'-6” (41.62m). #Wendell Booth# (So.-Deer River, Minn./Grand Rapids) placed 12th in the long jump, but led Division III jumpers with a distance of 22'-2.5” (6.77m).

On Saturday, #Stacey Peterson# (Sr.-Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.89 seconds. #Nikki Hughes# (So.-South Range, Wis./Northwestern) just missed her own school record in the 800-meter run by just over a second with a time of 2:21.41 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Stacey Peterson (Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS), #Samantha Johnson# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Denfeld), Nikki Hughes (South Range, Wis./Northwestern HS), and #Jennifer Plaetz# (So.-Lucan, Minn./Wabasso) ran its second-best time ever at 4:04.64 seconds.

The Saints will compete in the College of St. Benedict/Saint John's University Invitational on Saturday in Collegeville, Minn.
