MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis had a 7-2 triumph over Saint Catherine University this afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Saints improve to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the spring season. The Saints are 3-0 all-time against St. Kate's.
CSS would sweep all three doubles matches on the day. At No. 1, the duo of #Callee Conda# (
Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Milly Che Leon# (
Fr.-Lima, Peru) won 8-4. The No. 2 team of #Katie Motley# (
Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Kelly Ross# (
Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) won 8-6. Motley currently has 103 combined singles and doubles wins for her career. She needs just three more wins to tie the program record. Finally, the No. 3 team of #Megan Carlson# (
Sr.-Pine City, Minn.) and #Danni Sonnenfeld# (
Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) won 8-3.
In singles play, four of the six matches went to a third set super tie-breaker.
Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) was on the losing end at the No. 1 spot with a narrow defeat 6-2, 5-7 (12-10).
Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) won her match handily at the No. 2 flight 6-1, 6-1.
Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) rallied to win at the No. 3 spot 6-7 (1-7), 7-5, (10-8).
At No. 4,
Kelly Ross (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) took care of business winning 6-2, 6-0.
Milly Che Leon (Lima, Peru/Enrique Meiggs ) won her first singles match this season, rallying to a 4-6, 6-1 (11-9) victory. #Angela Shields# (
Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) at No. 6 singles fell in a close match 4-6, 6-4, (10-2).
The Saints will be in action next on their spring trip in Orlando, Fla. in a couple of weeks. The Saints will open with St. Ambrose (Iowa) and Augustana (S.D.) on Monday, March 15th.
