WOMEN’S TENNIS DROPS FIRST TWO MATCHES OF THE SEASON

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team fell to St. Olaf College 6-3 and St. Cloud State 7-2 on Saturday.

St. Olaf College is ranked 11th in the Central Region, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), and St. Cloud State is a Division II school. The Saints fall to 2-2 overall this spring season. St. Olaf lost to St. Cloud State earlier in the day and is now 2-1 and St. Cloud State improves to 4-0.

The Saints lost two of the three doubles matches against the Oles, but could have very easily won all three. The lone winner was the No. 2 team of #Katie Motley# (Sr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) and #Kelly Ross# (Sr.-Buffalo, Minn.) who won 8-1. The No. 1 team of #Callee Conda# (Jr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Milly Che Leon# (Fr.-Lima, Peru) lost 9-8 and the No. 3 team of #Danni Sonnenfeld# (Jr.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) and #Angela Shields# (Sr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) fell 9-7.

In singles action, Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) lost a close match at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 3-6, (10-5). CSS got the better end of a third set tiebreak at the No. 4 spot as Kelly Ross (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) rallied to win by a score of 0-6, 6-1, (12-10). Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) was the other winner at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-3.

Against St. Cloud State, the No. 2 doubles team of Conda and Che Leon won 8-2 for the lone doubles point. Ross and Sonnenfeld dropped a pair of third set tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. The lone singles winner was #Liz Coyne# (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) at the No. 6 spot 7-5, 6-2.

The Saints will be in action tomorrow when they face Carleton College at 3 p.m. The Knights are ranked 10th in the region and 28th nationally.
