PREVIEW: Men’s Hockey Heads Over the Bridge to Face-Off Against #15 UW-Superior

DULUTH, Minn. – After defeating one ranked team, the St. Scholastica men's hockey team will look to knock off another as it will renew the Bridge Battle and play the University of Wisconsin-Superior this weekend at Wessman Arena.

The Saints split a series against second-ranked St. Norbert College last weekend and to pick up their first NCHA victory of the year. The Saints fell to the Green Knights 6-1 on Friday night, but would rally behind goaltender #Patrick Sullivan# to defeat the Knights 2-1 on Saturday night.

St. Scholastica Saints (5-6-0, 1-5-0 NCHA)
Senior #Riley Riddell# continues to lead the Saints with 15 points this season, which is tops in the NCHA … Riddell has recorded at least one point in nine of the Saints' eleven games, including four multi-point games … As a team the Saints are averaging 3.18 goals a game, which is fourth-best in the NCHA … After missing the first six games due to injury, #Jeremy Dawes# has scored one goal in four of five games he has played in with the Saints going 3-2-0 during that stretch … #Brennan Poderzay# got the nod in net on Friday night stopping 18 shots before having to leave the game due to an injury … Patrick Sullivan (Kelowna, British Columbia/Chase Secondary (Fort William-SIJHL) ) has seen the most action in net and has a 3.38 goals-against-average … However, if the Saints want to get things rolling, they will have to climb out of the cellar in save percentage (.867) … The Saints had a season-low two penalties against the Green Knights on Saturday … CSS has by far the least penalties in the league this season with 54 … Superior is second with 64 penalties.

#15 UW-Superior Yellowjackets (7-3-1, 5-1-0 NCHA)
The Yellowjackets are coming off a 1-1 tie at home against Lawrence University on Tuesday night … The Yellowjackets' lone conference loss this season came at the hands of UW-River Falls by a score of 5-3 in the season opener … One of their two other losses was against St. Thomas who is now receiving votes in the USCHO poll and the other was Marian, who the Saints beat just two weeks ago … UWS is second in the NCHA, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the stats … The Yellowjackets are ranked in the bottom half of the league in most major categories … Offensively the Yellowjackets have a balanced attack with 12 scorers having at least two goals and no player with more than three goals on the year … Pat Dalbec is leading Superior with six assists, as well as, eight points … Drew Strandberg and Garrett Tinkham are splitting time between the pipes and are combining for a 2.60 goals against average … Tinkham has a 1.25 goals against average to give him tops in the NCHA and third-best in the nation in that category … His .955 save percentage is second-best in Division III … As a team the Yellowjackets are putting 3.20 pucks per game in the back of the net.

The Saints were 3-0-2 last year against the Yellowjackets … Both ties were in the NCHA Peters Cup quarterfinals, and in the mini-game, Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) netted the unassisted game winner in sudden death overtime to eliminate the 'Jackets.
