BEMIDJI, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was defeated by Division II Bemidji State 83-31 on Tuesday night at BSU Gymnasium.
The Beavers (3-3) led from start to finish, taking a 4-0 lead early on. The Saints (1-5) got on the board with a 3-pointer by #Kayla Heisler# and then #Laura Amys# converted a lay-up to make it 7-5. Bemidji then went on a 12-2 run to expand its lead to 19-7.
The margin was eight with nine minutes to go, but CSS would make just one field goal in the final eight minutes as the Beavers outscored the Saints 20-5 during that span to make the halftime score 43-20.
The Saints shot 26-percent in the half, while the Beavers shot 42-percent. Bemidji scored 19 points off 16 St. Scholastica turnovers.
In the second half, the Saints were held to just to 11 points on three made field goals as the Beavers went on runs of 10-0 and 18-0 on their way to an 83-31 victory. Bemidji State improves to 18-0 all-time at home against the Saints.
The Saints without #Bri Allen#, who was out due to injury, was outscored in the paint 42-4 and 27-2 in second-chance points.
Kayla Heisler (Remer, Minn./Northland HS) led the Saints with nine points on 3, 3-point field goals. #Taylor Fellbaum# added six points off the bench.
Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) had a team-high eight rebounds. Samantha Baldwin had 11 points and 13 points for her first career double-double for the Beavers.
The Saints will head to Hancock, Mich. on Saturday to face Finlandia University in the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader. The tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. local time.
