Women’s Basketball Drops First Game in Turkey Shootout

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was defeated by host University of Wisconsin-Stout 79-55 on Saturday night in the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout.

The first 15 minutes of the game was back-and-forth with four ties and six lead changes. Neither team had a lead of more than four points. Eight different players scored the first 16 points for CSS.

The Saints led 20-18 following a #Savanna Treichel# 3-pointer with six minutes to go in the first half. The Blue Devils followed with an 11-0 run and went into halftime with a 41-28 lead.

The Saints shot 33-percent in the first half, while the Blue Devils shot 37-percent. Stout scored 19 points off of CSS turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Trailing by 19 in the first minutes of the second half, St. Scholastica went on an 8-0 run to cut it to 11, thanks to four points by #Laura Amys#. Stout quickly responded with a 10-0 run to get the margin back up to 21. The Blue Devils would end up winning 77-55.

CSS shot 31-percent for the game, while the Blue Devils shot 41-percent. CSS committed 38 turnovers and Stout had 28 turnovers. The Blue Devils outscored the Saints in the paint 24-8.

Laura Amys (South Range, Wis./Superior HS) had nine points off the bench to lead the Saints in scoring. Savanna Treichel (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Whitney Rawdon and Tricia VanVreede each had 14 points for the Blue Devils.

The Saints will conclude the Turkey Shootout tomorrow morning when they face the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Live video of the game will be provided by UW-Stout.
