DULUTH, Minn. – Senior #Jermaine Dacres# registered his 13th goal of the season and that was the difference as the St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated Bethany Lutheran College 1-0 Friday afternoon at Saints Field.
The Saints'
Sam Reed (Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) also tied the program record for shutouts in a season with his 11th, stopping two shots.
The Saints (13-3-1, 10-0-1 UMAC) controlled possession much of the match and accumulated 16 corner kicks in the contest.
Off of one of those corners, #Cody Sveiven# played a ball to Dacres, who beat the goalkeeper from top of the box exactly 24 minutes into the contest.
That is all CSS would need as Bethany Lutheran (9-7-0, 6-4-0 UMAC) never had a real serious scoring opportunity in the game.
The Saints out-shot the Vikings 25-6. The Vikings used three different 'keepers with Noah Heidorn receiving the loss.
More good news for the Saints came from outside of Duluth as Minnesota-Morris defeated Northwestern College 1-0. That means with a win tomorrow the Saints can clinch the No. 1 seed in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) postseason tournament.
The Saints will host Martin Luther College tomorrow at Saints Field in their final home regular season contest of the season. The Saints will be celebrating their nine seniors. The action gets underway at noon and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
