Chong extends goal streak to six straight games

ST. PAUL – After shutting out the University of Wisconsin-Superior in its final game of 2009, the fifth-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team started 2010 with a 4-0 victory over No. 7 Hamline University at Drake Arena this evening.

The Saints improve to 9-2-2 overall and are 6-1-0 in their last seven games. After sweeping fourth-ranked Adrian College (Mich.) last weekend, the Pipers fall to 8-2-2 with the loss.

The Saints got off to a good start as #Jordan Chong# (Sr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) extended his goal streak to six games with an even-handed tally seven minutes into the first period. #Daman Milsom# (So.-Kelowna, B.C.) and #Riley Riddell# (Jr.-Wawota, Sask.) had the assists. Shots were at premium in the period as Hamline held a 5-4 advantage.

Chong struck again four minutes into the second period with his team-best seventh goal to make it 2-0 CSS. Daman Milsom (Kelowna, British Columbia/Mt. Boucherie Secondary (Westside-BCHL) ) had the assist. The Saints made it 3-0 halfway through the second period with a #Carter Davis# (So.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) goal, his fourth of the season. #Chris Sinclair# (Fr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) and #Jordan Baird# (Sr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) had the assists. Hamline once again had the shot advantage, 7-6, but was 0-for-2 on the power-play.

St. Scholastica added one more goal on the night in the third period when #Brett Corcoran# (Fr.-Parksville, B.C.) netted his fourth of the season to make the final score 4-0. Jordan Chong (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Dryden (SIJHL)) and Riley Riddell (Wawota, Saskatchewan/Wawota Parkland (UW-River Falls) ) assisted on the goal.

CSS goaltender #Brennan Poderzay# (So.-Tower, Minn.) earned his second consecutive shutout, stopping 19 shots to improve to 5-2-0 this season. Beau Christian had 12 saves in the loss for the Pipers. There were a total of eight penalties and neither squad could capitalize on the power-play.
