DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team rebounded well from last night's loss with a 73-55 win over the Bethany Lutheran Vikings Saturday afternoon at Reif Gym at the Burns Wellness Commons.

The Saints are now 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Bethany drops to 6-11 (2-5 UMAC).

A tight first half saw the Saints and Vikings play to only two lead changes and the score was deadlocked six times throughout. The Saints started the game on a 10-4 run, started by a quick #Laura Amys# (So.- South Range, Wis./Superior) lay-up, and capped off with an #Alexa Leighton# (Sr.- Superior, Wis.) jumper. Yet the Vikings held close throughout the first. After BLC cut the CSS lead to one at 30-29, the Saints went on an 8-0 run, finishing with a #Bri Allen# (Fr.- West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) jumper, giving the Saints the largest lead of the half. Two BLC free throws and a jumper with five seconds to go cut the Saints lead to 38-33 at halftime. Allen had 13 points at the break to lead all scorers. CSS shot 56-percent from the field.

CSS broke the game open in the second half with a string of runs to stretch the lead. With CSS up 60-49, two #Katie Christensen# (Sr.- Elk River, Minn.) free throws with an Amys free throw, aided with lay-ups from Amys and #Kelly Cinquegrani# (Jr.- Buffalo, Minn.) stretched the Saints lead to 18. Exceptional CSS defense barred the Vikings from getting any closer than 14, and the game ended with 73-55 CSS win.

Saints scoring was balanced across the roster, as four players recorded double figures. Allen had a team-high 18, with #Kirsten Haukom# (Sr.- Marshall, Minn.) and Christensen scoring 14. Cinquegrani chipped in with 12. Haukom also had a good day on the boards, collecting nine rebounds. BLC's Nicole Jones was the game's leading scorer, with 20.

The Saints will host Northland College next Saturday on Alumni Day at Reif Gym. The action is set to begin at 3 p.m. You can catch the action live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, on csssaints.com.
