DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was out-scored 39-20 in the second half on its way to a 78-65 loss to Bethany Lutheran College this evening at Reif Gym.
The Saints fall to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Vikings improve to 4-13 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
The Saints went on a 12-3 run to take a 21-12 lead with 10:45 to go in the first half. The Vikings answered with a 9-0 run to tie the score at 21-21. Later in the half the Saints went on a 13-4 run thanks to hot shooting by #Chris Hamers# (
Jr.-Onamia, Minn.). Hamers made his first four, 3-point attempts. The Vikings cut the score to 45-39 at halftime.
The Saints shot 70-percent in the first half, while Bethany Lutheran shot 52-percent. Hamers scored 20 points in the half on 7-of-9 shooting.
The Vikings scored the first five points of the second half to complete a 9-0 run and cut the deficit to one. CSS's #Jonah Dahlman# (
Fr.-Braham, Minn.) scored five straight points to put the Saints up 50-44 with 15 minutes to go. The Saints led by seven with 11 minutes to go. However, they would score just five points and make two field goals in the final 10 minutes.
On the other hand, Bethany Lutheran got good looks at the basket and took its first lead since early in the first half with 6:23 remaining. The Vikings closed the game on a 7-0 run to win by a score of 78-65.
After shooting 70-percent in the first half, the Saints were held to 30-percent in the second half. CSS was 0-for-10 from beyond the arc in the half. Meanwhile, the Vikings shot 67-percent in the second half and scored 28 points off of 19 Saints' turnovers for the game.
Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) led the Saints with 20 points, but was held scoreless in the second half. #Brett Tester# (

Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) had 11 points and six assists. Three different Vikings led the way with 15 points.
