ST. PAUL – For 89 minutes it appeared that the St. Scholastica men's soccer team would open its season with a loss, but a late goal and then a #Courtney Bonnick# (So.-Nottingham, England/Haywood Comprehensive) header in overtime gave the Saints a 2-1 victory this afternoon over Macalester College.

The Saints are now 2-4 all-time against the Scots, having won the last two years. It is the first road win by CSS at Macalester. The Scots drop to 0-1-1 on the year.

St. Scholastica controlled the match out-shooting Macalester 17-9, but could not capitalize until the very end. The Scots took a one goal lead in the 38th minute when Taylor Rasmussen scored unassisted.

The score remained 1-0 until 1:02 left in regulation when #Dustin James# (Jr.-Superior, Wis.) tied the match 1-1. #Greg Doornink# (Jr.-Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) had the assist.

With 3:16 left in overtime, Courtney Bonnick (Nottingham, England/Haywood Comprehensive) received a pass from #Jermaine Dacres# (Sr.-Nottingham, England/Haywood Comprehensive) and put the ball in the back of the net to give CSS a 2-1 victory.

#Sam Reed# (So.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) stopped two shots to earn the win for the Saints. Matt Weyer had the loss for the Scots. CSS has won their last two overtime matches and back-to-back season openers.

The Saints will be in action next on Wednesday when they open conference play at Northland College. That match is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Northland Field.
